昭和19(1944)年11月1日、青森県弘前市生まれ
8歳より津軽の手踊りで、

15歳より津軽三味線で舞台に立ち、東北各地を廻る
19歳で上京。民謡酒場で研鑽を積み、

1970年にテイチクレコードより初アルバムがリリースされる
　以来、今日までその演奏を収録したレコード、CDは数え切れない
　津軽民謡の本筋である｢唄づけ｣

　　(唄に対して即興で応えていく、津軽三味線本来の高度な技術)のできる
　数少ない演奏家として高い評価を受けており、
1992年に日本郷土民謡協会より、

1999年に日本民謡協会よりそれぞれ「技能章」が授与されている

2010年日本郷土民謡協会より「民謡栄誉賞」授与される

2018年日本郷土民謡協会より「名人位」を授与される

現在、津軽三味線・民謡の重鎮として全国組織「澤田会」を率い、
自身の演奏活動のみならず、

若手の育成にも力を注ぐ

現役最年長かつ津軽出身、津軽三味線の黎明期を知る

最後の津軽三味線奏者として精力的に活動中

Katsuaki Sawada was born on Nov.1st 1944 in Tsugaru native district

-Hirosaki city, Aomori Pref. where the North East of Japan.

At age 8, started stage tour around the North East area in Japan

by "Tsugaru Te-odori"(Dance with the folk songs in Tsugaru) ,

and by playing the Tsugaru Shamisen at age 15.

Up to Tokyo at age 19,

appeared on stage and work as a professional player.

In 1970, his first recording album released from Teichiku records

He's given two "Minyo Technical Award"

by two Japanese largest Minyo associations,

Japan Association of Local Performing Art in 1992,

In 2010, given "Minyo Honorary Award"

by Japan Association of Local Performing Art.

In 2018, finally given "Minyo Master Artist" by Japan Association of Local Performing Art.

He has been leading "Sawada-kai" since 1975,

he actively performs in foreign countries and of course in Japan.

Also as a teacher, he put the focus on training of next-generation.

or "the last Tsugaru Shamisen player from Tsugaru"
